Google Workspace is a suite of cloud‑based productivity and collaboration tools available to the SUNY Geneseo community. These tools support email, file storage, document creation, and real‑time collaboration from nearly any device with internet access.

Google Workspace for Education is available to all Geneseo students, faculty, and staff and can be accessed using a web browser or mobile device.

Google Workspace includes:

• Gmail

• Google Drive

• Docs, Sheets, and Slides

• Google Meet

• Google Calendar

• Google Chat

Account access and sign‑in

• Google Workspace accounts use the standard @geneseo.edu email address format.

• Authentication is handled through Microsoft’s federated authentication system, using your Geneseo credentials.

👉 This means your Google access is tied directly to your Geneseo account status.

Privacy and Data Protection

Google’s privacy practices for Geneseo users are designed to protect institutional and individual data.

Google's privacy policy protects Geneseo users:

• It's our content, not theirs. Files and emails belong to SUNY Geneseo or individual users — not Google.

• Google doesn't look at your content. Access is only granted if explicitly approved by a Geneseo administrator for troubleshooting.

• Google doesn't share your content. Google does not share personal information with advertisers or other 3rd parties without your consent.

• Google sometimes scans content. And for very good reasons, like spam filtering, anti-virus protection, or malware detection. Google's systems scan content to make Google Workspace work better for users, enabling unique functionality like powerful searching in Gmail and Google Docs. This is completely automated and involves no humans.
