Credly Badge Metadata
This guide provides details about the metadata required for new Credly badges.
Designing Your Digital Credentials: A Metadata Guide
This guide outlines the essential components required to launch a new Credly badge at SUNY Geneseo. Badge metadata is the digital "DNA" of your credential—it transforms a simple icon into a data-rich record that proves a student’s mastery to the world.
Effective metadata should clearly articulate three things:
Capability: What can the earner do?
Rigor: What did they do to prove it?
Value: Why does this matter to an employer or graduate school?
The Geneseo Advantage
At SUNY Geneseo, micro-credentials do more than just check a box. They empower students to:
Bridge the Gap: Connect academic theory with high-impact, real-world experiences.
Increase Visibility: Provide a verified platform for employers to see tangible evidence of skills.
Cultivate Narrative: Help students articulate how their diverse experiences—inside and outside the classroom—create a unique professional identity.
