Communicating With Your Class
This article walks Faculty through the different ways to communicate with their class.
Faculty who wish to communicate with their class via email should send an announcement via myGeneseo. You can also send an announcement from Brightspace to reach all enrolled students.
Recommended Approach
We recommend that you use Picture Class Roster to extract student email addresses. They can then be pasted into your email client.
Alternative Approach (mail client required)
You can use this approach if you use an email client like Thunderbird or Mac Mail. You can also set up your browser to send email links to Gmail. Since this approach requires additional set up, we offer this as an alternative, but we do not recommend it as a first choice.
Faculty can send messages to their classes from myGeneseo. Department chairs and secretaries have the ability to email any class in the department to send announcements regarding class cancellations or changes.
Log into myGeneseo.
Do a search in the Sites Search Bar at the top of the page for “Class Roster”.
Select a term from the “All Terms” dropdown menu.
Click on subject.
Under “Summary Class list” select a student or all student by checking the checkbox to the left.
Then click on the email icon (
).
Your computer will launch an email client (Thunderbird, Mac Mail, etc.) to compose the message.
If you do not use an email client (Thunderbird, Mac Mail, etc.)
You can configure Chrome to send messages from myGeneseo through Gmail.
Go to http://gmail.geneseo.edu in Chrome and login.
When you open Gmail in Chrome, a Protocol Handler icon (double diamond) should appear to the left of the star (bookmarks) icon in the upper right hand corner of the URL bar.
Click it to show the following: Allow mail.google.com to open all email links?
Click on the circle next to "Allow". Then click on the Done button.
Chrome email link handler - 2nd approach
How to modify Protocol Handler settings after first setup.
Click the Chrome Settings menu (3 vertical dots in the upper right hand corner of the browser toolbar).
Select Settings.

If you want to remove it from automatically using Gmail in Chrome, click on the 3 dots to the right of "mail.google.com" and click Remove.
The double diamond should reappear at the top of your Gmail if you refresh the page.
If you are not able to contact your class(es) personally
Department Chairs and Academic Secretaries are able to contact your classes via a custom application in Argos. To use the Class List application, visit http://go.geneseo.edu/secretaryclasslist
