Blocking Email From Specific Senders

Blocking Email From Specific Senders

Create a Gmail filter to silently discard all incoming email from a specific sender.

Before you Start

Perhaps you have a marketing message that does not respect the unsubscribe button, or someone is harassing you via email. Blocking the sender with Google's built in tools is easy and effective.

This process will not notify the sender that they have been blocked and therefore they will be less likely to create a new email address to harass or spam.

Steps - Block Sender

  1. Log in to Gmail with your Geneseo Google account.

  2. Select a message from the sender you wish to block.

  3. Click the downward-pointing triangle to the right of the message's reply button and select Block.

  4. Confirm that you wish to block that sender.

  5. Log in to Gmail with your Geneseo Google account.

  6. Click the gear icon on the right and click "Settings".

  7. Click "Filters and Blocked Addresses".

  8. Scroll down to the section that begins with "The following senders are blocked..."

    1. If you wish to unblock a blocked sender, click the "unblock" link to the right of that sender.

    2. You will be asked to confirm this.
