Installing the Pharos Secure Printer
This article is intended for users who are installing the Pharos Secure Print client on their personal computing devices. College-owned Windows and macOS devices should have the Pharos Secure Printer already installed. If you do not see the Pharos Secure Printer, follow the instructions below to manually install it.
Windows Installation Instructions
Download the Pharos_Win_8.1.14.100.zip file from software.geneseo.edu
Fully extract or unzip the downloaded zip file by right clicking on the zipped file and choosing “Extract all”.
Open the extracted PharosSecure_Win_8.1.14.100 folder.
Double-click the PrintScout-Pharos_8.1.14.100.msi file to begin installation.
Do not move the InstallConfig.ini or PrinterDriver.zip files beforehand.
Step through the on-screen prompts, accepting all defaults, to complete installation.
A Print Scout Configuration window may appear after installation completes called . You can close that window.
We suggest opening the “Printers and Scanners” from the System Setting and setting the Pharos Secure Printer as the default printer.
You can now proceed to print from any application.

Linux Installation Instructions
CIT does not support Linux operating systems and cannot assist with troubleshooting installation and(or) printing issues on a Linux device.
Only the following Linux versions are supported by Pharos:
Ubuntu 18.04 (64-bit), Ubuntu 20.04 (64-bit), Ubuntu 22.04 (will be available the end of September)
Red Hat 8 (64-bit)
The Linux print scout is limited compared to the Windows and macOS scouts. It only installs a print queue called Secure-Printer. It does not install the Pharos Secure Release application or the Setup Guide. In order to view your submitted jobs, you will need to use the Secure Release mobile application, use a Windows or macOS computer to check the Pharos Secure Release application, or you can view your jobs after authenticating at a Pharos Toshiba printer.
Download the SUNYGeneseo_LinuxPrintScout.zip file from software.geneseo.edu
Open the SUNYGeneseo_LinuxPrintScout folder after it has unzipped
For Ubuntu Linux, run the following command:
dpkg -i openid-print-scout_2.1.0_amd64.deb
For Red Hat Linux, run the following command:
rpm -i openid-print-scout_2.1.0_amd64.rpm
A printer called Secure-Printer should now be installed and available for use
Troubleshooting
If you accidentally delete the Pharos Secure Printer after it had been previously installed or if the printer is missing, please restart your computer and login. After a few moments, the printer should recreate itself.
Windows Uninstall/Reinstall Pharos
If using a personal device proceed to step 2, if using a campus owned device elevate to Admin using the MakeMeAdmin app.
The Pharos cleaner will need to be run in order to fully uninstall the software. In File Explorer go to C:\Program Files (x86)\PharosSystems\PrintScout\
Double-click the cleaner file in order to run the uninstall. The file will be called either cleaner.exe or MsiCleaner.exe. A black Windows Terminal screen will pop-up and run the cleaner. This can take a few minutes.
Once completed and the Terminal windows closes, restart your computer.
Once restart has completed, you can now install the newest version of Pharos using the above instructions on this page.
If when you run the installer you see the below image with only the “remove” option available, proceed with “remove” as that means there are still some Pharos components needing to be uninstalled. Once that completes then you can run the installer again and it should successfully install.
Mac Computers
If the normal Pharos troubleshooting does not resolve printing problems, Mac users may need to reset the print system within MacOS or uninstall and reinstall the Pharos Print software.
Reset Printing
Instructions for resetting the print system can be found at this link (note this process will remove all installed printers from the computer):
Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem
Uninstalling/Reinstalling on a College Owned Device
You will need to have Admin Privileges to do this. Please click on the Privileges app and type in your password to make yourself an Admin on your Mac.
Search for “CIT Self Service” using the Magnifying Glass icon in the top right hand corner of your screen.
Find the Pharos Print reinstall application, but DO NOT click on the Reinstall button yet! Click only on the Pharos Print icon and it will give you instructions on how to manually uninstall Pharos Print first.
Once that is done (it will tell you that it was successful), you can then click on the Reinstall button under the Pharos Print icon. It will reinstall Pharos Print and this should resolve your printing issues.
Uninstalling/Reinstalling on a Personal Device
Click on the Go menu at the top of your screen. Select “Go to Folder…” Type in: /Library/Application Support/Pharos/PrintScout and press Return to go to that location.
Find “Uninstall.app” in this folder and double click it to uninstall the program.
Once it has finished and was successful (it will tell you it was successful), you can then click on the Reinstall button to reinstall Pharos Print.
