Accessible Course Requirements Checklist

This checklist is designed to help faculty create accessible courses that provide equal access to all students, including those with disabilities. Please ensure that your course meets these requirements to contribute to an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse learning needs.

Checklist:

Ally accessibility score in Brightspace is an 85 or higher.
An accessible syllabus is provided in Word format.
All content and learning activities are available in Brightspace 7 days before the first day of class.
Provide course materials in accessible Word, PowerPoint, HTML, or accessible PDF format.
Accommodation Statement is present and easily located.
Copyright law followed. Where possible, Open Educational Resources, free, or low cost materials used.
Transcripts are provided for audio materials and videos have closed-captions.
Hyperlink text includes the hyperlink purpose and avoids raw URLs. For ex. “Brightspace Help” is used instead of “https://go.geneseo.edu/brightspace.”
All links, files, videos and external URLs are current and working. No spelling or grammar errors.
Alt text descriptions are used for all images in the course.
Color does not overpower the course. Contrast between text and background makes text easy to read. Color alone does not convey meaning.
Styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.) used to format text. At least 12-pt, sans serif (Arial, Calibri, etc.) fonts used.
Tables are only used for tabular data, and not for layout and design of non-tabular data. Tables include a title, description, and header rows and columns.
