Creating Pages in Drupal

This article will teach you how to create pages using Drupal.

  1. From the editor menu bar at the top of the page (black background). Click 'Create Content' in the “Workbench” tab and choose "Basic Page", "Advanced Page", "Dept News/Kudos" or "Personal Page" from the select list for the website where you want to create a page.

  2. Enter the page title in the Title Field.  Drupal will use the title as the path for the page unless you specify an explicit URL path. (See step 4)

  1. The Body section is the main content of the page.

    • The default text format is basic.  This format controls the editing options available in the editor. Depending on your permissions you may have access to other text formats.

  2. URL path settings can be used to provide a custom URL for the web page.

    • The URL is typically generated based on the title of the page.  We highly recommend that in most situations you use the automatically generated URLs.

    • Uncheck the "Generate automatic URL alias" box to customize the URL.

    • Be careful that you follow the directions specified when entering the custom URL.  These URLs should be relative meaning they should start with “/“ and NOT “https://www.geneseo.edu/“.  URLs should separate words using dashes to maximize web page SEO (search engine optimization) e.g. /this-is-an-example.

  1. Sometimes the page you create may be related to other pages. Begin typing the title of the related page in the “Related Pages“ field and select from the provided options. Press the “Add another item“ button to add more related pages.

A webpage section titled Related Pages. It features a text input field with a search icon and a Remove button next to it. Below this, there are instructions explaining how to add up to six links to related pages on the Geneseo website by typing the page title, and how to remove a link by deleting the text and saving. An Add another item button is also present.
  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Ensure that the publish checkbox is enabled, then click the save button.

Locate and Edit an Existing Page

Navigate to the page you would like to edit. If you are not logged in, log in using the link at the bottom of the page. Once logged in, click the 'Edit' tab on the page menu (the tab will only be visible if you have permission to edit the page).
