LinkedIn Learning Quick Start Guide

Geneseo students, faculty, and staff have free access to the entire LinkedIn Learning (LIL) training library (over 24,900 courses) through Geneseo's site license.

Set up your LinkedIn Learning account

  • Access http://go.geneseo.edu/linkedinlearning to bookmark and activate your Geneseo LinkedIn Learning account.

  • Enter your full Geneseo email address and click Continue.

  • You’ll be redirected to the Geneseo login portal to authenticate using your Geneseo username and password.

Decide whether to connect your LinkedIn account

Select topics that interest you

  • You will be asked to select topics/skills of Interest to you (select 3 to start with).

    • Your choices will help LinkedIn Learning populate your homepage with recommended courses.

Once you have completed the setup, you will be directed to your personalized LinkedIn Learning homepage.


Navigation Bar Overview

Located on the left side of your screen, the navigation bar includes:

My Career Journey

  1. Choose your career goal (whether it is to advance your current career, transition to a new career, or develop skills to manage teams)

  2. Choose skills specific to your career

  3. Review "My Learning Plan"

  • In Progress: Courses you've started but haven't finished

  • Saved: Courses you've bookmarked for later

  • My Collections: Courses you've organised into custom categories

  • Assigned by SUNY Geneseo: Courses assigned to you, often with a due date

  • Recommended by SUNY Geneseo: Optional courses recommended for your growth, without deadlines

  • Learning History: Courses you’ve completed

Content

Click the Content icon on the navigation pane to browse through various categories, custom content.

At the top of the screen, beneath the search bar, select a category from Business, Technology, Creative, Certifications, or custom content from SUNY Geneseo. Explore content by selecting an option in Role Guides, Learning Paths, Topics, or Software subsections. Narrow your search using the topic filters. Select a course and start learning.

AI Coaching

AI-powered coaching is a feature that uses generative AI to help learners navigate LinkedIn Learning's content library and get personalized and actionable advice and examples to help them develop critical skills.

Certifications

Sharing your certificates of completion on LinkedIn enhances your LinkedIn Learning experience by showcasing your skills and commitment to continuous learning, strengthening your professional brand.

This practice enriches your profile, boosts visibility to recruiters, and fosters connections with like-minded professionals, encouraging network engagement.

How to Start Learning

Search bar

While there are many ways to start learning, the most straightforward method is to use the Search bar and apply filters to find specific courses or topics that interest you. Watch Search for LinkedIn Learning Courses video to see how easy it is to search for courses and content on LinkedIn Learning.

Courses Assigned to You

Your instructor may assign Learning Paths or Collections to support your studies.

Learning Paths

  • Structured series of courses designed to progressively build your skills

  • Ideal for complex topics such as coding or data analysis

  • May be assigned to you directly by your academic

Collections

  • Flexible groupings of courses or resources

  • Explore specific topics or areas of interest at your own pace

  • Designed to complement your coursework

Courses You Choose

My Collections

My Collections allow you to curate learning content based on your interests or career goals. This feature helps you organize courses and resources, enabling exploration of specific topics at your own pace, creating a personalized learning path that aligns with your objectives.

LinkedIn Learning Terminology

Video: Short micro-learning resources typically 2-10 minutes, allowing you to get key learnings quickly.

Course: Focused instruction typically lasting 30 minutes to 1.5 hrs. Courses contain individual videos and can be started and stopped as needed.

Learning Path: Curated courses and/or videos focused on a broader topic for learners to explore in sequential order.

Collection: Curated courses and videos on a broader topic for learners to explore in any order.

To download the app, open the App Store on your device and search for LinkedIn Learning.
