Eduroam Wireless Network (macOS)

 

To access eduroam, Geneseo’s secure wireless network, follow these directions. This network provides encryption for security and removes the need for repeated authentication.

Connecting to eduroam on macOS

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the upper-right corner of your screen.

  2. From the list of available networks, select eduroam.

  3. When prompted, enter your full Geneseo email address (e.g., username@geneseo.edu) and your Geneseo password.

  4. Leave 802.1X set to Automatic (this option may not appear on all devices).

  5. Check the box for Remember this network.

  6. Click Join.

Removing Old Wireless Network Settings

If your computer can't connect to the wireless network, it may be due to an incorrect password or unrecognized certificates.

Follow these steps to clear existing wireless settings for a fresh connection to the eduroam network:

Forget Eduroam from Known Networks

  1. Open Apple Menu > System Settings

  2. In the sidebar, click Wi-Fi

  3. Click the Details button next to your current network

  4. Scroll down and click Known Networks

  5. Find eduroam → click the three dots (…) → Forget This Network

  6. Confirm removal

Remove an Eduroam Profile

  1. Open Apple Menu > System Settings

  2. Click General → Device Management

  3. Select the eduroam (or university Wi-Fi) profile

  4. Click Remove Profile (or the – button)

  5. Enter your Mac admin password if prompted

  6. Restart your Mac if required

Remove Keychain

  1. Open your Applications folder - then the Utilities folder - then double-click Keychain Access.

  2. Search for any items related to wireless network passwords - use the search box to look for "802.1X Password" files and "Internet Connect" files.

  3. Highlight any found items and delete them by pressing the delete key on the keyboard.

After these settings have been removed, you can re-enable Wi-Fi using the Wi-Fi icon. Follow the configuration directions above.

Organizing Your Preferred Networks

If you use your laptop on more than one wireless network, you may want to ensure that your networks are in the order you prefer.

  1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the upper right of your screen and select "Network Preferences...".

  2. Click on "Wi-Fi" in the menu on the left.

  3. Click on the "Advanced..." button.

  4. In the 'Preferred Networks:' pane, drag the networks into the order that you prefer. eduroam is the network you will use on campus. Click "OK".
