D2L Lumi Pro - Generative AI in Brightspace

D2L Lumi Pro - Generative AI in Brightspace

SUNY recently announced the system-wide roll-out of D2L Lumi Pro, which is the Generative AI Capability within Brightspace. The initial deployment of Lumi focuses on creating workflow efficiencies for faculty and course creators by helping them to generate quiz questions, discussion prompts, and assignment ideas. Additional functionality will be rolled out by D2L in the future to support students in achieving learning outcomes and provide data-driven insights to faculty and campus leaders.

Before You Start

The following are some key elements to be aware of when it comes to using Lumi Pro:

  • Lumi leverages Anthropic’s Large Language Model (LLM) Claude by using content provided by the course creator

  • SUNY’s agreement with D2L protects Faculty intellectual property by ensuring that:

    • D2L does not own input content

    • D2L does not own output content

    • D2L will not use input content to train the Generative AI models

  • SUNY’s agreement with D2L requires that users will not represent that output content is human generated when it is not

    • Consider developing a statement for your course syllabus that speaks to your use of Lumi Pro
