CIT Annual Report 2024
From the CIO
Dear Colleagues,
It has been a year of significant change at CIT and Geneseo. We have a new Provost leading Academic Affairs and a new CIO following in the footsteps of Sue Chichester’s outstanding 39-year career. I was appointed as CIO and Director of CIT in April 2024. I feel both blessed and honored to lead this amazing group of people.
In addition to Sue’s retirement, CIT had other retirements and resignations creating some significant staffing challenges. I am proud that despite those challenges we maintained our expected service levels and accomplished significant projects. Some of the more notable examples include:
23-24 FAFSA Simplification – CIT was one of the leaders in SUNY helping to pilot and refine this major overhaul for aid packaging. Geneseo was among the earliest campuses to deliver aid packages to its students.
Wireless Upgrade – we deployed approximately 2500 modern CISCO wireless access points to greatly improve our coverage, performance, reliability, and security of our wireless network.
SUNY Print Initiative – we implemented the new SUNY print policies focused on long term financial and ecological sustainability.
SUNY LMS Migration to Brightspace – migration of the Learning Management System platform with the goal of increasing student success and allowing them more flexible options where they complete their courses in support of their educational goals.
ITEC Banner Hosting – migration of our Banner and information system services to the SUNY iTEC data centers to improve our disaster recover position, allow IT resources to work on other strategic initiatives, and to reduce our long-term total cost of ownership.
We have significant challenges in front of us in 24-25 including ever increasing security threats, implementing a new digital storage strategy, long term direction of our email/calendar/conferencing collaboration suite, support for continuing education and online courses, and many others. We are preparing and looking forward to the exciting launch of Milne Library and our new Help Desk location!
I greatly appreciate the support I have received from the campus and within our CIT team in my role and I look forward to serving you in 2024-2025.
Sincerely,
Paul Jackson
